The fifth annual All-Star Charity Shootout (ASCS) on Saturday, July 17 will see 20 of Canada’s best university, college and professional basketball players compete for two deserving charities.
The Clash of the Charities will reward 60 per cent of the event’s proceeds to the charity represented by the winning team with the remaining 40 per cent awarded to the other charity.
This year, the ASCS is proud to introduce two new and equally worthy charities to the fold: War Child Canada and the Michael “Pinball” Clemons Foundation.
War Child Canada
Founded in 1999, War Child Canada works in partnership with local individuals and organizations to build sustainable programming that empowers war-affected children, their families and their communities.
War Child Canada’s outreach initiatives connect with youth by equipping them with the resources and knowledge to become active citizens and creating a more equitable world for children living with the effects of war through the actions of youth here at home.
Of every dollar received by War Child Canada, 90 cents goes directly to overseas programs, ensuring access to education, legal aid protection and other opportunities for children living with war so that they may grow to become self-reliant and influential members of their communities.
War Child Canada currently provides active support to numerous countries including Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone, through programs that benefit more than 100,000 children and their families annually, helping to create a world where no child knows war.
“War Child is thrilled to be a part of this year’s All-Star Charity Shootout as a charitable beneficiary,” said Alyson Rowe, manager, Youth Action, War Child Canada. “The funds received from this event will go to support children affected by war in some of the most devastated areas of the world to ensure that they receive the education and resources necessary to become self-sufficient and build a brighter future.”
